We are excited to announce that, with the support of the Public Schools Finance Board, the WSD Board of Trustees approved the replacement of the roof at Cecil Rhodes School. Work is expected to start in the near future.

Since the 2009/2010 school year, the Winnipeg School Division has covered the cost of memberships for schools interested in becoming members of the Manitoba Association of Parent Councils. In 2009 the cost of membership was $40 and has recently increased to $70 for the 2016/2017 school year. The Manitoba Association of Parent Councils is an organization of school-based parent groups throughout Manitoba. Membership with MAPC supports parent groups by representing school parent groups in Manitoba by working closely with Manitoba Education and other educational partners.

In 2015/2016, 33 schools requested memberships for a total cost of $2,145.00. It is projected that should 35 schools become interested in membership, the 2016/2017 cost of membership to the Division would be approximately $2,450.00. The board voted to have the Winnipeg School Division continue to cover the Manitoba Association of Parent Councils membership cost for interested Parent Councils.

Trustee Koshelanyk introduced a motion to change the procedural by-laws of the Winnipeg School Division to ensure the Oath of Office was a public event. Previously trustees of the division would take the Oath of Office in a private ceremony. The Board of Trustees supported of this change with a unanimous vote in favour of the motion. This change is timely as we have a by-election occurring in Ward 7 this fall.

The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for November 7th, 2016 and the next Special Board Meeting is scheduled for October 17th, 2016 should it be necessary.
